RentHistory.org is owned and operated by RIOT MOTION LLC (“Company,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). We value your privacy and are committed to full transparency regarding how we collect, use, retain, and share your information.

Information We Collect

We collect the following information when you use our services:

• Account Information: Name, email address, telephone number, and residential address supplied during registration. Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms. You may request deletion of this account information at any time by emailing support@renthistory.org.
• Rent History Data: When you submit rent history documents (plaintext, images, PDFs, or any format), you grant the Company an unrestricted, irrevocable, perpetual right to use, share, distribute, and publicly disclose this data. These uploads are retained indefinitely and are not eligible for deletion requests.
• Activity & Analytics Data:
  • We use Google Analytics with IP-anonymization enabled to understand site usage. Google collects IP address, browser, and device data, but RentHistory.org does not combine this data with personally identifying information.
  • We do not perform our own browser fingerprinting or cross-site tracking; however, third-party services described in this policy (e.g., Cloudflare, Ezoic, Google) may set cookies or similar technologies that enable such tracking.
• Device & Security Data: Cloudflare processes IP addresses and device characteristics for security and anti-bot protection. This data is retained for up to seven (7) days unless malicious activity is detected.
• Cookies:
  • Essential session cookies: Randomized IDs that keep you logged in and expire when you log out or after a period of inactivity.
  • Analytics cookies: Set by Google Analytics for aggregated usage insights.
  • Advertising cookies: Set by Ezoic and its partners to deliver personalized or contextual ads (see “EZOIC SERVICES” below).
  Disabling cookies may impair login or ad-supported features.
• Form Submissions: Forms store the submitted data along with IP address and browser user-agent to maintain security and functionality. These submissions can be deleted upon request by emailing support@renthistory.org.
• Promotional QR Codes: When you interact with QR codes in our materials, we record the scan event (timestamp and destination URL) to gauge marketing effectiveness.

How We Use Your Information

• Provide rent history analysis and related tenant-advocacy services.
• Maintain and secure user accounts.
• Prevent fraud, bots, and scraping.
• Improve our platform via aggregated analytics and QR-code engagement metrics.
• Advance transparency, accountability, and affordable housing initiatives in New York City using the rent history data supplied by users.

Use of Google Analytics

Google Analytics operates with IP anonymization activated. We do not merge Analytics data with other personal identifiers. You may opt out using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Details on Google’s data practices are available here.

Sharing of Information

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share data only with:

• Service providers such as Cloudflare, Google, and Ezoic that enable security, analytics, or advertising functions.
• Government authorities or legal entities when required by law.
• The public, in the case of rent history data submitted by users (as detailed above).

EZOIC SERVICES

This website uses the services of Ezoic Inc. (“Ezoic”), including to manage third-party interest-based advertising. Ezoic may employ a variety of technologies on this website, including tools to serve content, display advertisements and enable advertising to visitors of this website, which may utilize first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file sent to your device by a web server that enables the website to remember information about your browsing activity. First-party cookies are created by the site you are visiting, while third-party cookies are set by domains other than the one you're visiting. Ezoic and our partners may place third-party cookies, tags, beacons, pixels, and similar technologies to monitor interactions with advertisements and optimize ad targeting. Please note that disabling cookies may limit access to certain content and features on the website, and rejecting cookies does not eliminate advertisements but will result in non-personalized advertising. The following information may be collected, used, and stored in a cookie when serving personalized ads:

6. Email (in a hashed or encrypted form)

Ezoic and its partners may use this data in combination with information that has been independently collected to deliver targeted advertisements across various platforms and websites. Ezoic’s partners may also gather additional data, such as unique IDs, advertising IDs, geolocation data, usage data, device information, traffic data, referral sources, and interactions between users and websites or advertisements, to create audience segments for targeted advertising across different devices, browsers, and apps. Data Security

We employ technical and organizational safeguards (encryption in transit, strict access controls, network firewalls) to protect your information. No system is completely secure, but we continuously review and enhance our security posture.

Your Rights

You may access, correct, or delete any account information, form submissions, or QR-code interaction data we hold by emailing support@renthistory.org from your registered email address. Rent history documents you upload are permanently retained and excluded from deletion requests.

Updates to This Privacy Policy

We may modify this policy to reflect operational or legal changes. Updates take effect immediately upon posting. Review this page regularly to stay informed.
